"MOM, I NEED YOU"

"Mom, I NEED you." I must hear these words 350 times a day. So, a few days ago when Anna was calling me at the top of her lungs, I must admit I took my sweet old time getting to her. Only to find this!! HOLY COW, she was not kidding. This here is called a Baboon Spider and is a member of the tarantula family. Anna found it in a hallway that is quite far from any door or window, so this guy had spent quite some time getting from there to here. Fabulous! My photo does not do this guy justice, so take a minute and google "Baboon Spider" for some seriously bone chilling looks at the features and size of this thing. My housekeeper was less traumatised. Her only comment was that usually they don't move in until the rains start; meaning that this is NOT unusual and there are more to come. Goody!
Here are some photo's of our house. It's really nothing to look at from the outside (or the inside for that matter), but it helps now that all of our stuff is here. EVERY house here looks the same; stucco ranches with bars and grills on EVERY non-concrete surface.
We finally received our consumables that were bought, stacked to the ceiling in dad's garage and sent to Malawi in JUNE! They arrived on Tuesday and I had such great intentions of unpacking and sorting all through the night. Except about 30 minutes after I opened the first box our power went out and the generator died. It was only just after 6pm, but that's like midnight here. Welcome to the land of "ok, now for plan B".

MANGO UPDATE: About the size of tiny apricots. I predict at least another month to go. Insert long sigh.
We have a fantastic garden growing. With have planted: tomatoes (about a million), butternut squash, eggplants (my nod to Moldova), basil, mint, cilantro, oregano, carrots, broccoli, onions, lettuce, and rosemary. Some of the herbs are ready, but we are still waiting for the veggies. This will cut my grocery bill in half. Even though EVERYTHING grows here, most things are imported and very expensive.
I'd love to say the kids did this. It was me. Wondered what Margie would look like with some additional mulberry spots.

I thought Margo had some odd African disease with the red spots on her hair!! Love it that you're growing a garden Lynn!! Thanks for showing pics of the house.

I'm pretty sure your driveway is bigger than our entire house. Certainly your garden is.... I suppose it takes a lot of square footage to accommodate the local wildlife (EEEeeeewwwwwwwwwww!) (:

What did you do with the spider, shoo it into a bedroom and never open the door again? Heeby-Jeeby!!
