It has been a slow picture week. Our absolutely beautiful summer weather is now a memory. Last week it went from consistently high 70's to 51 and rainy, day after day after day after day. Mike set up the tent last week and was going to spend the night in it with the kids...but the rain set in first. Now that tent has been in the yard for a week and we are just waiting for it to dry out so it can be packed up.
Mike has been very busy at work. The end of September is the end of the Govt's fiscal year. Mike is one of only 2 people at the Embassy who can sign purchase orders so he is inundated with people trying to spend their 2008 money before time runs out. Frankly, Mike coming home late is sometimes a nice break for me. It really takes the pressure off making a nice dinner. It's amazing the crap I can find to feed the kids when daddy's not home for dinner!
I think I got a taste of what winter will be like as far as finding food goes. The other morning I walked to the market in the rain to get some milk or something. I'm not sure if it was the weather, or if all the produce is "finished" (as they say), but there was NO FOOD! Just last week, the tables at the market were piled high with grapes (40-60 cents a pound), plums (3 cents a pound), tomatoes (25 cents a pound), corn, bell peppers (50-60 cents a pound),melons (tons of melons), eggplants and potatoes. I kept telling Mike that he needed to walk to the market and take some pictures because all the produce was actually really pretty. He never did and now I fear we will have to wait several months until the tables are full once again. Please think of me when you find a tasty potato/onion recipe.
I have been busy peeling and freezing tomatoes, peppers and anything else I can get my hands on for the winter. Sophia seems to be enjoying school. It's hard to tell when the they only report I get from her is, "fine." Seriously, do they teach kids this the first day....that when anyone asks how school is JUST SAY FINE!!
Have a great week, enjoy the beautiful fall weather I envision you all having while I sit here in a t-shirt, sweater, jeans, wool socks and slippers.
