2 1/2 YEARS IN THE MAKING

It took 2 and a half years, but we finally have piggy tails!!

This really is exciting news for me. Her hair is coming in as crazy as Sophia's (no hair growth in the front, only in the back and down the sides), but at least with some length I can get the mullet off her neck!

On Friday, I joined Sophia's school (kindergarten-2nd grade) on another field trip to a village about 2 hours south of Chisinau. William got to join us which he thought was really cool. We went to a village school where Sophia's teacher used teach English while he was a Peace Corps volunteer. The school was actually quite nice - a 2 story building with a cafeteria/gymnasium. The building was clean, but chilly as they don't turn the heat on until frost is settling on the desks. We were treated to a little production in the gymnasium which was interesting for a few minutes, but after about 25 minutes (entirely in Romanian) the kids began to get quite restless (and the adults flat out bored). Adjacent to the school is the village kindergarten and I just can't get over the beds at these schools. Is it just me, or is seeing room after room of minature cots weird to anyone else? I also ran into baby Jesus in the hallway....welcome to the 21st century where seeing Jesus at a school totally blew me away!

My final piece of weekly news is that Sunday Sophia started ballet! Shortly after this picture was taken she totally freaked out (if you look closely you can see "pre-freak out" on her face), so I ended up on the floor next to her doing all the exercises with the class. So picture a room full of 5-9 year old girls in pink leotards....and me in jeans and a sweatshirt trying to pretend I'm half as limber as them! Fortunately I have no pictures of that to share with you all. The class was entirely in Russian (except, of course, for the French ballet words) and Sophia (with me translating what I knew) was able to follow along just fine. That's all from Moldova. Have a great week.
