A few weekends ago we decided to hop in the car and make a road trip to the beach. Moldova has over the years been chopped up and divided many times. When it was last divided, Moldova got majorly screwed. If you look on a map, Moldova is painfully close to the Black Sea, but doesn't quite reach far enough. So, for us to head to the beach (of any sort, as Moldova also lost in the lake lottery), means packing up the car for a pretty substantial road trip. Bad directions also made our, "um, it's like 2 hours" trip a bit closer to 4. One way. Nevertheless, we made it and were able to add another stamp into our passports as a bonus. 
We aimed for a beach outside of Odessa, Ukraine. We had a nice time and found the beach quite pleasant, however, judging from the reaction of our Moldovan friends when they heard where we went, I think we drove directly into the Ukraine's version of "trailor trash'istan." Oh well, the kids had fun and now one of those lucky Ukranians is the proud owner of Mike's wedding ring; which was lost during the digging you see in the picture above.
